Baseline period:

Our approach

We are a UK micro company specialising in research and experience design. We deliver consultancy services and digital outputs, working with clients remotely wherever suitable. This plan explains our estimated company emissions, the change in how we calculate them, and the practical steps we will take to reduce our impact.

Remote client delivery is different from staff homeworking. During 2024-2025, our staff working pattern was approximately 90% office based and 10% homeworking. Our reported footprint includes office energy, business travel, commuting and homeworking, alongside the other sources listed below.

Our commitment and target

We retain our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030. Our gross emissions target is a reduction of at least 90% in Scope 1, Scope 2 and reported Scope 3 emissions from the recalculated 2022-2023 baseline by the financial year ending 30 September 2030. Against the baseline of 16.90 tCO2e, this means no more than approximately 1.69 tCO2e.

We will prioritise reductions and continue beyond this threshold where practical. Meeting a target for the reported sources alone would not establish a complete Net Zero footprint. Before making a Net Zero claim, we will review any material unreported sources and address remaining residual emissions through evidenced, durable, high-integrity carbon removals. Gross emissions and any removals will be reported separately. Nature recovery or unverified offsets will not be treated as reductions in our company emissions.

A consistent calculation method

Our earlier reporting used the SSE Energy Solutions calculator, with Normative also used in the historical process. We have moved to the SME Climate Hub Small Business Carbon Calculator. The reports used for this plan were generated on 8 October 2026 using version 2.1, powered by Equipoise.

We recalculated the 2022-2023 baseline, the 2023-2024 comparative and the 2024-2025 reporting year using the same calculator version and the best historical information available. The previously published baseline of 26.9 tCO2e is now 16.90 tCO2e on this basis. That revision is a change in the accounting basis, not an operational emissions saving. Comparisons in this plan use only the recalculated series.

Earlier reports and calculation files are retained unchanged as historical records. The recalculated figures replace earlier figures for comparisons in this plan. Historical estimates remain limited by the records retained; using the same tool does not recover missing evidence or remove uncertainty.

Our reported emissions

All figures are tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e), before any carbon removals or offsets. Each financial year runs from 1 October to 30 September. Scope 1 covers reported heating emissions; the calculator reports zero fugitive emissions. Scope 2 is purchased electricity on a location-based basis. Scope 3 covers the indirect sources shown below.

Company emissions using the recalculated series

Reporting yearScope 1Scope 2Scope 3Total
2022-2023 baseline1.070.6515.1916.90
2023-20240.940.669.2910.89
2024-20250.810.515.426.75

The reported 2024-2025 total is 6.75 tCO2e: approximately 60% below the recalculated baseline and 38% below 2023-2024. These percentages are approximate and are calculated from the rounded report totals. Changes in staffing, workload, purchasing, travel and energy factors can affect the results. We cannot attribute the overall change solely to our reduction measures.

Reported Scope 3 emissions for the reporting year

CategorySourcetCO2e
1Purchased goods and services2.85
2Capital goods0.30
3Fuel and energy related activities0.33
5Waste generated in operations0.07
6Business travel0.52
7Employee commuting and homeworking1.35
8Upstream leased assets0.00
 Reported Scope 3 total5.42

Totals are taken directly from the calculator reports. Rounded components can differ from a reported total by 0.01 tCO2e; we have not adjusted the figures to force agreement.

Coverage and limitations

The calculator combines activity data and estimates, including spend-based estimates for purchases. Those estimates indicate scale rather than precise supplier emissions. We have not separately quantified upstream or downstream transportation and distribution. We do not sell or distribute physical products. Unreported categories are not asserted to be zero, and these totals are not presented as a complete assessment of every value-chain activity.

Scope 2 remains location based. The emissions figures and target have not been independently assured or externally validated. This is a voluntary company plan; we do not claim certification through use of the calculator.

Reducing our impact

From approval of this revised plan, our priorities will be:

  • Office energy: reduce avoidable heating, lighting and appliance use. Review energy use and tariff options at the next available contract renewal, retaining evidence of any change.
  • Equipment and purchasing: repair and extend the useful life of devices where practical, consider refurbished and energy-efficient replacements, and use appropriate reuse or recycling routes. Review material software, cloud and associate purchases, including unnecessary subscriptions.
  • Travel and working arrangements: use remote collaboration where it suits the research or project, prefer rail and public transport where practical, and avoid unnecessary flights. Review commuting and homeworking assumptions annually rather than assuming remote client delivery removes these emissions.
  • Supplier information: use credible emissions information where it is readily available for material purchases. We will not require detailed reporting from every small supplier or spend time reconstructing unavailable historical records.

Helping clients understand project emissions

We already estimate emissions manually for individual client projects. These estimates consider staff working time, the relevant share of office and software costs, associate inputs, travel and other relevant expenses. We will explain the project boundary, period, allocation basis and significant assumptions so clients can understand the estimated contribution from our services.

Time is an allocation basis, not a separate emissions source. We will avoid counting the same office, software, associate or travel emissions more than once within a project estimate. Project estimates represent shares of, or related estimates of, our activities; they are not extra emissions to add to our annual company total. They are indicative and may differ from a client calculation using its own reporting method.

Reducing the impact of our outputs

We will apply practical measures to research materials and digital handovers:

  • Compress videos, images and large files to an appropriate quality and resolution. Use concise clips, transcripts or summaries where suitable, while retaining necessary research originals.
  • Share controlled links to final deliverables where practical and avoid unnecessary duplicate uploads, transfers and copies. Agree handover and retention arrangements, with deletion consistent with consent, privacy obligations and required research evidence.
  • Use reusable, maintainable formats and components. In design recommendations, favour efficient user journeys, proportionate media and necessary data collection. Preserve accessibility and research quality.

We may record a few examples, such as reduced file sizes, to show these practices in use. We will not deduct assumed client savings or avoided emissions from our company footprint, or require a carbon calculation for every deliverable.

Annual review and evidence

We will review this plan through normal business management and update our annual emissions using the SME Climate Hub calculator. Our internal records will retain each report, the inputs or input summary, material assumptions, approval and the published version. We will improve material data where readily available and explain significant changes in activity or method.

We will consider restating the baseline and relevant comparisons if a significant methodological change, error or boundary change would materially affect the reported trend or target. Routine annual factor changes reflecting actual changes in emissions do not automatically require a historical restatement. Any restatement will be explained and applied consistently.
