We’re incredibly pleased to share that our long-term partners Factory 73 have been awarded the NHS Highland website design and development tender. Border Crossing UX has also been engaged to provide user experience support throughout this 3-phased development process.

Background

NHS Highland provides prehospital care, primary and secondary care services across one of the largest and most sparsely populated health boards in the UK.

The NHS Highland website has existed in its current form for over a decade. It has long been viewed by the organisation as offering an outdated experience for service users, staff, and stakeholders; with knock-on effects for services and how NHS Highland is perceived. Redeveloping the NHS Highland website could not be deferred any longer.

Our challenge

As this is a once in a decade opportunity to implement a user-centred website that meets the needs of citizens, professionals, and other key stakeholders. Border Crossing UX have been engaged to provide user experience support throughout this 3-phased development process that must adhere to the Scottish Approach to Service Design (SAtD).

Our approach

Over the coming months we’re likely to focus on the following key activities:

Frame

Identify key stakeholders across NHSGGC who should be invited.

Discover

Identify how best to implement a user centred approach to information architecture.

Define

Translate ‘discovery’ research with the public, staff and stakeholders into phased requirements.

Generate

Design and test key page templates, interactions and user journeys.

Deliver

Provide ongoing support with user testing and content optimisation.

Closing thoughts

We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work on such an important project. Given the media attention and the need to launch the new website as soon as possible, we will be doing everything we can to help Factory 73 transform NHS Highland’s digital capabilities.

If you’ve recently visited the region or live within the Health Board and have used the NHS Highland website recently, we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out and share your feedback on the current website with us directly (add link).
